WhatsApp announced on Wednesday that it will roll out new privacy features that will give users more control over what information others may access. According to Techy, users may now limit who can view their profile photo, last seen status, and other information with the new update.
According to Engadget, the modification adds a new option that allows users to hide their profile photo, about, and last seen status from particular persons in their contacts. This appears to be a useful option for people who want to keep their identities hidden from businesses, banking accounts, or weird persons on WhatsApp.
According to Techcrunch, WhatsApp has had a feature-heavy week in terms of privacy and usability. Earlier this week, the firm revealed that users will be able to transfer their conversation chat history, images, videos, and voice messages from Android to iPhone using Apple’s Move to iOS app.
Users will be able to enable the capabilities on their WhatsApp accounts soon, since it is likely to be a phased release.
Prior to the official launch, a limited beta of the new privacy setting was offered to a select group of users. New upgrades to the meta-owned messaging platform’s group calls have also been unveiled. Participants in large group calls can now mute or message particular persons, according to Will Cathcart, the head of WhatsApp at Meta.
There were just three options on WhatsApp before: everyone, my contacts, and nobody. According to Engadget, if individuals choose to hide their last seen status from others, you will not be able to see theirs.
