Home robots, intelligent personal assistants, beyond-distance vision, congestion-free cities… these are just some of the new trends we can expect to notice in our lives by 2025.

Change is coming and it’s coming fast – AI, 5G, the Internet of Things and other emerging technologies are converging to forge a world of new experiences and productivity for everyone.

Toddlers giving commands to smart assistants. Robots going where we can never go. The disappearance of touch-based commands as home appliances begin speaking to us. Traffic lights that see more than we do. Endangered species living in threatened ecosystems protected by smart devices… these are just some of the changes happening around us.

Global Industry Vision 2025

Drawing on Huawei’s own quantitative data and real-world use cases of how intelligent technology is permeating every industry, Huawei’s Global Industry Vision report predicts technology trends up until 2025, including 5G coverage, AI deployment, home robot adoption and smart assistant use rates.

The report also identifies the megatrends that will shape how we live and work by 2025. Here are five of them you might notice in your lives soon:

1. Home robots

Increasingly smart, sophisticated and versatile robots are poised to boost our quality of life in a major way. Our report estimates that 14% of families worldwide will have a smart domestic robot in the home by 2025.

But what will these robots do? It might be housework, or providing educational assistance to our children, or physical and mental health care to family members including elderly relatives.

Robots are constantly improving in capabilities, benefits, and ubiquity. They will serve as teachers, nurses, butlers and, of course, faithful and comforting companions.

Nursing homes will also employ robots for elderly care. Huawei predicts that, in G8 nations, nursing homes will be using an average 10 robots each by 2025. Given the rate at which the human race is ageing, and the shortage of healthcare professionals in many countries, robots have the potential to improve the quality of elderly care significantly.

2. Industrial robots

By 2025, the report estimates that there will be 103 robots for every 10,000 employees working in the manufacturing industry.

As well as saving time, increasing productivity and freeing up people to concentrate on more creative and high-value tasks, robots can have a hugely positive impact on reducing work injuries and deaths, by working remotely in hazardous environments.

Robots can improve productivity by conducting repetitive tasks with tireless accuracy, and they will prove invaluable for high-precision tasks such as medical surgery and the manufacture and placing of very tiny components such as in nanoelectronics.

3. Super sight

By 2025, the level of individuals living in regions covered by 5G organizations will have reached 58%. At that tim, what is known as Super Sight will have shown up – the assembly of cloud, 5G, 4K+ video, computer generated reality (VR), increased reality (AR) and computerized reasoning, to permit us to see “past distance.”

By fully utilizing 5G, intelligent connected cars, IoT, quantum computing and other smart technologies, a healthy intelligent transport system can help ease the lives of busy urban residents, reduce travel costs and travel time, and boost efficiency across cities.

“Green-light journeys” will be standard much sooner than you might imagine – thanks to highly automated, intelligent and user-friendly city infrastructure.

And a congestion-free city will have a faster-growing economy, as goods and services circulate faster.
