Marvel Studios just tore the roof off of San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H, taking to the con for the first time properly since 2019 with a boatload of new looks at what’s to come on screens big and small for the MCU. io9 was there to cover it all—but in case you need a reminder of what just went down, here’s what you need to know. The panel kicked off with the formal debut of Phase 5’s schedule: that’s right, Phase 4 is already over, or will be when it concludes with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s release this November. Plenty of names are familiar to us already, but there’s a few new details, including the name of Captain America 4, New World Order, and, oh… did we mention Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio will return as Daredevil and Kingpin for an 18 episode Disney+ series? 1. SHE-HULK
The brand new trailer for Tatiana Maslany’s new Disney+ series gave us a much better look at the show’s balance of comedy and action, as Jen Walters adapts to her life as the gamma-radiated attorney She-Hulk. We got plenty of of looks at the return of Tim Roth as the Abomination, but also a new ally for Jen and her cousin Bruce: Matt Murdock, aka the Man Without Fear: Daredevil. She-Hulk hits Disney+ August 17.
2. Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania
The next adventure for Marvel’s size-changing superheroes adds one more hero in the form of Cassie Lang herself, played by Kathryn Newton, and adds a new villain too: not only is Loki’s Jonathan Majors returning as Kang the Conqueror, but the evil MODOK, leader of the rogue science organization AIM, will be in the movie. It debuts February 17, 2023.
3. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Footage screened to the audience from James Gunn’s third and seemingly final Guardians movie gave us some laughs between Gamora and Peter Quill, and teases of major new characters like Chukwudi Iwuji’s High Evolutionary and Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock, but the big news we learned is that the film will focus a lot on the tragic origin story of Rocket Raccoon, and how he escaped genetic experimentation on Halfworld to become the irascible warrior we know and love. That means flashbacks, and it means step aside Baby Groot: Baby Rocket is here. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits theaters May 5, 2023.
4. Fantastic Four and Two Avengers Movies
Learning about Phase 5? So a few hours ago. Now we’re all about the MCU Phase 6: named officially now as the Multiverse Saga. The next-next chapter of the MCU will include the new Fantastic Four movie, and not one, but two Avengers films: Kang Dynasty, releasing May 2, 2025, and the ominously named Secret Wars, a major event from Marvel’s comics that reshaped the entire multiverse, releasing November 7, 2025. (According to Kevin Feige, via Deadline, the new Avengers movies won’t be directed by the Russo Brothers.)
5. The First Black Panther:
Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther sequel already had a lot to live up to as the follow up to one of the MCU’s most beloved movies, and that was before the incredibly tragic passage of star Chadwick Boseman also levied it with the onus of having to chart a future for Wakanda without T’Challa. Our first glimpse at Wakanda Forever might just have given us an idea how, deftfully weaving Boseman’s absence into the story of a nation rocked by crises, and heroes new and old that must rise to save it… including the debut of Tenoch Huerta as Namor the Sub-Mariner, King of Atlantis. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hits theaters November 11, 2022.
6. Secret Invasion – Spring 2023 (On Disney+)
The eye-patchless Nick Fury will return to your screens in 2023. Marvel has announced that its Secret Invasion series is coming to Disney+ in Spring 2023. Announced as part of the Marvel Studios panel at SDCC 2022, Secret Invasion stars Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, as well as a host of other stars.
7. Echo – Summer 2023 (On Disney+)
Streaming exclusively on Disney+ in 2023, the origin story of Echo revisits Maya Lopez, whose ruthless behavior in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.
“Echo” also stars Chaske Spencer (“Wild Indian,” “The English”), Tantoo Cardinal (“Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Stumptown”), Devery Jacobs (FX’s “Reservation Dogs,” “American Gods”) and Cody Lightning (“Hey, Viktor!” “Four Sheets to the Wind”), with Graham Greene (“1883,” “Goliath”) and Zahn McClarnon (“Dark Winds,” FX’s “Reservation Dogs”).
8. The Marvels – July 28, 2023 (In Theaters)
The sequel was originally scheduled for July 8, 2022, and was later pushed back to November 11, which is now the debut date for Black Panther 2. Marvel boss Kevin Feige has finally confirmed that The Marvels will arrive next summer, pending any more delays.
9. Blade – November 3, 2023 (In theaters)
The next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will bring Blade into the mix with a brand new reboot, and Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali is taking over the vampire-slaying role.
The San Diego Comic-Con returns to its full glory tonight with a monstrous Marvel panel that revealed several new titles from Fantastic Four to Avengers: Secret Wars.
The biggest Phase 5 reveal for horror fans is that Marvel will begin shooting the new Blade this coming October and promises to have it in theaters by November 3, 2023!
10. Ironheart – Fall, 2023 (On Disney+)
Marvel announced during its San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) panel that Ironheart will release in Fall 2023. As Marvel continues to build out the MCU with the help of the House of Mouse’s dedicated streaming platform, Disney+, newer or lesser-known characters are getting their chance at a live-action treatment. Among the many shows in development at the service is Ironheart, which sees Dominique Thorne play Riri Williams, the lead character and a 15-year-old engineering student who invents a new suit of armor similar to Iron Man’s exoskeleton using materials stolen from her MIT campus.
11. Agatha: Coven of Chaos – Winter 2023/2024 (On Disney+)
Not exactly striking while the cauldron is hot, Disney+’s Agatha Harkness series might not premiere until a full three years after WandaVision made its January 2021 debut.
Ordered to series in November 2021 and previously known as Agatha: House of Harkness, the newly rechristened Agatha: Coven of Chaos was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday night to be one of five Disney+ series that figure into the MCU’s Phase 5 slate (detailed below). Filming begins later this year, with an eye on a “winter 2023/2024” premiere.
